Is it silly that I'm just now posting these images that were taken in February? Okay maybe a little bit but I finally organized and streamlined my process for editing photos. Teaching myself Lightroom a couple of years ago seemed okay at the time but quite disastrous once I found out how to actually organize files using catalogs! Gone are the days of using one catalog for every single shoot. LOL.

I almost always use Lightroom now and Photoshop only if there's something extra I need to photoshop out of an image. Why? Because...

  • you can edit photos in batches
  • you can use a  preset for one photos and use the same edits for other images
  • you can export images in batches with a numerical order (for example: if I wanted to save these two photos, I simply export them and LR automatically numbers them in order of export)
What about you? What editing software do you use and how do you organize your files?

  1. I recently discovered the magic that is lightroom, and have been kicking myself over the amount of time I spent fussing around with photoshop! I'm definitely still working on learning how to use it properly -- especially the organization bit! Would love some tips, since it sounds like you've figured out that part!

    1. Seriously, right? Why didn't I start using LR yearsss earlier? Also, check out photomechanic! I started using it this past week and it's even faster to rename files here!

  2. As always, beautiful photos Tana! I don't really edit photos that much, but when I do, I use photoshop, I am curious to try lightroom though.

  3. I loooooooooooooove Lightroom, ESPECIALLY for organizing photos (I used to have multiple catalogs too until I went to a workshop that told me not to & it cost me a lot of hours to merge everything but I'm so glad I did). I love being able to search, and filter photos. I haven't cataloged any old photos, don't plan to, but all my new ones are in collections by date and tagged with keywords. Love it!!!! Oh, and editing is a cinch in LR too. I don't go beyond the Basic tools though. How do you use presets? Are they only good for photos in same lighting?

    1. Oh boy, I have only one catalog for two years! I have yet to tag the photos with keywords but right now, organizing files and copy and pasting edits have been a lifesaver! I do make presets but they're super simple. Like you mentioned, they are better to use in similar lighting. :)

  4. beautiful photography! I am pretty crap with organising files while my boyfriend is super organised and sometimes takes over my laptop and organise them haha.

I use lightroom often, I like how you can export them in a folder in any size you want them to be.

Oh, and I love using Lightroom as well! I don't use Photoshop anymore, just because I love all the things that Lightroom can do for me!
